13U (Born in 1997) NEW: At the 13U level, the club is contemplating whether it should maintain a pure 13U team or add a few 14U players so the team could compete at the 14U level. The decision about the team's direction will depend on the mix of the players who attend tryouts. After assessing this group of athletes, the coaches and Club Executive will decide on the best avenue for player development. As usual, all players should tryout for their appropriate age level (see the tryout guidelines in the QuickHits section). If you have questions, please do not hesitate to contact Janet Kawchuk, the Club President.
13U is the youngest age group that the AVA runs. It is designed with a focus on“playing the game” and having lots of fun. This category leads to a Provincial Championship. Registered teams can compete in two Premier events followed by the Provincial Championships. In order to be eligible to compete in the Canadian West Open Championship, teams must take part in the Provincial Championship.
13U teams are not eligible to participate in 14U, 15U and 16U events. 13U will utilize the 12 subs limited rule with no libero. 13U will have a separate division in Premier tournaments and the Provincial Championships provided there are sufficient entries. Teams with a mix of 13U and 14U players must play in the 14U category. The Tachikara Volleylite will be the official competition ball for this age category. The only exception will be in the case of insufficient entries to run a tournament. In this case the 13U teams will be combined with the 14U teams and the Tachikara Gold ball will be used. Tryouts and training at the 13U age class level may not commence until January 1st of the current club volleyball season. |
