About NAVC

Northern Alberta Volleyball Club (NAVC) is an elite volleyball club that provides volleyball instruction to U13 to U18 male and female athletes in the Edmonton, Alberta area.  NAVC will be a competitive and fun volleyball club for both guys and girls that will serve manifold purposes. The Club is focused on the education and development of the athlete first and foremost. It is the Club’s firm belief that the winning, in all aspects of volleyball and life, will be taken care of in due course if the athlete’s well being is the focus.

The principal philosophy behind NAVC is a shared vision of the founding members. This vision is to offer a unique training and educational opportunity, which appeal to both the competitive athletes and coaches who share an interest in competitive volleyball as well as mutual respect for each other’s learning and teaching abilities. The most important part of this philosophy derives from a shared belief that a positive attitude, dedication, self-sacrifice, teamwork, and discipline necessary for success in life is an excellent basis for a competitive volleyball team. The interests of the competitive athlete and the sport of volleyball are best advanced when this philosophy is combined with exceptional, fundamental technical coaching.

The secondary philosophy is to bring together these like-minded individuals to weave their talents into an interdependent and closely-knit structure. This structure will serve to encourage, support, challenge each individual of the club as well as speak with one voice concerning our beliefs with regard to the sport and the pedagogy of coaching volleyball while also allowing our members to maintain their individuality.

Outlined below please note the qualities and commitment we look for to have you the student athletes be part of our Elite Program:

  • We really encourage the multi-sport athlete for the U13/14 age groups. Specialization too early can have adverse effects such as burn out and overuse injuries. By being involved in a variety of sports and therefore supporting the cross-training principal, we encourage our student athletes in developing the entire body.
  • Eventually, our U15/16 student athletes need to slowly start making decisions to follow one or two sports as demands in the areas of practice time, tournaments as well as physical training start imposing and creating pressure to the daily schedule
  • For our U17/18 athletes, their main sport focus needs to be primarily volleyball only, providing that achieving a post secondary playing opportunity is a priority for the player.
  • We are looking for student athletes who demonstrate the following qualities:
  1. self-motivation
  2. tenacity
  3. leadership
  4. self-discipline
  5. positive attitude
  6. ability to change
  7. exceptional work ethic
  8. strong academic standing
  • Further we are very focused on high level individual academic achievement. Without a strong academic performance, opportunities for post secondary institutions will be limited in the student athlete’s future.

We feel that the opportunity to be involved with NAVC is an exceptional one.  If you feel that you have the qualities and commitment it takes to be a true NAVC Elite Athlete, please register for our tryouts.
