One of the distinct advantages of a club like NAVC is the high calibre of coaches it attracts because of its history and reputation for developing great athletes, and great young people. We know each NAVC team will not only benefit from great coaching but will be exposed to the wealth of knowledge and experience of our Technical Advisors consisting of former CIS, National Team and many Pro volleyball players, as they help with the selection process, assist at team practices and offer positional clinics to NAVC athletes throughout the upcoming season.

NAVC 18M Maroon Griffins Coaching Staff
Ken is currently an Assistant Coach at The Kings University under the mentorship of Phil Dixon. As well Ken serves as the Founder/Director of PursuitVolley high performance camps & clinics. He is also the lead of PursuitVolleys a development program for CCAA/CIS athletes to compete in the USA Volleyball Open National Championships annually. Prior to returning to Edmonton, Ken was at Lethbridge College as one of the men's assistant coaches from 2013-2015.
Ken has also been a Team Alberta Assistant Coach for the 17U Men in 2014 and 18U Men in 2015 where they were the Western Elites Gold Medalists both years. He has also been a coach at both the Jasper Volleyball Camp & Sylvan Lake Volleyball Camps from 2011-2018.
This will be Ken's third year coaching with NAVC and he will be looking to further his success after leading both his 16 and 17 teams to back to back Provincial Championships in 2016 and 2017. Ken is excited to welcome back a strong core as well as some significant additions.
Ken is a fully certified Level 2 coach in volleyball and is looking forward to growing his extensive volleyball knowledge even further.

NAVC Griffins 17M Coaching Staff
Matt is excited to join the NAVC program this year as the head coach of the NAVC Griffins 17 men's team.
He is entering his 10th year as a club volleyball coach, where he has been a part of 5 provincial finals, 2 provincial titles, and 1 national championship. In addition to his club experience, Matt has been an assistant coach at MacEwan University and now The King's University, where he is entering his second year with the King's Eagles.
Matt played his club career mostly with NAVC, and is eager to bring his experience and technical knowledge to the 17 men's program.
Matt is entering his sixth season coaching with NAVC and is very excited to be back again for the 2018/2019 season.
Matt has been the Head Coach for the NAVC U15 boys for the past two seasons and has experienced great success with his teams. He has also held the Head Coach position for the U13 boys program and had the opportunity to coach in the Provincial final.
Outside of NAVC, Matt is the Head Coach of Strathcona High School Junior Men's Volleyball program where he coached the team to a City Championship. Matt has also been the Zone 6 Head Coach for the Alberta Winter Games where his teams have won a gold, silver and bronze medals.
Matt strongly believes in developing volleyball players in both the technical and mental aspect of the game. He has a philosophy of creating strong character in his athletes on and off the court. Matt’s passion for coaching Volleyball and the energy he brings to his teams results in a positive and high energy environment in which his athletes thrive in.
Matt is currently completing his level 2 coaching certification.
NAVC Griffins 16M Coaching Staff
Mark is currently a teacher and Sr. Boys Head Coach at Salisbury Composite High School in Sherwood Park. He also has 15 years of playing experience including playing for Team Alberta U16 and U17, Grant MacEwan for 4 years and the University of Alberta for 2 years. During his playing days, Mark won a Canada West and CIS National Championship in 2014. Mark has also been a coach with Grassroots Volleyball under Brock Daviduk and is a level 2 certified coach.
Tristan Gerrie is currently a teacher at Bev Facey, and this will be his 9th year of coaching, and his 7th year of coaching club. He currently is the head coach of the senior mens team at Bev Facey, and has coached there for three previous seasons. He is a level two certified coach, and this will be his fourth season of club at the 17U and 18U level.
After taking a season off from club last year he is very much looking forward getting back into coaching club, and hopes to pass on his experience and knowledge taken from previous years to a new group of athletes. His philosophy is a based on a simple process over result ideology, and believes that through determination accompanied by endless effort, results will be achieved.
Matt Mohler is a former MacEwan Griffin that is joining the NAVC coaching staff for his 2nd year. Matt graduated from Strathcona High School in 2012 while also playing on the Senior Men’s Volleyball Team for 3 years. During his time with the team, he helped lead the team to a top 4 finish in provincials while also winning an MVP award with the team. Matt proceeded to join the MacEwan Griffins volleyball team the following year and played for 5 years with the program as a setter. Matt was a part of the team that obtained a #2 CCAA ranking countrywide, and helped the team achieve a silver medal at ACAC Provincials. Matt was awarded a Most Outstanding Contribution with the MacEwan Griffins in 2015 and became captain of the team during his last 2 years. Matt is also a former NAVC player and played 6 years with club. Over his NAVC club career, Matt has won 3 provincials championships and achieved a top 3 finish at nationals. Matt is currently working towards his Masters in Physical Therapy at the University of Alberta. He has high level volleyball experience and knowledge at both the ACAC and CIS level, has helped coach various volleyball camps, and is eager to begin his 2nd season coaching with NAVC.
NAVC Griffins 15M Coaching Staff
Christian is headed into his 5th year coaching with NAVC. His involvement with volleyball has spanned 11 years, including 4 years playing high caliber high school and club volleyball. Christian also played 3.5 years at the collegiate level as a libero for the Concordia University of Edmonton Thunder. He enjoys contributing to the short and long-term successes of his athletes on and off the court emphasizing technical skill development and goal setting. Currently, Christian is excited to return to Concordia to begin his first year in the education program.
Marc is excited to enter his 1st year as a coach with NAVC. He has played volleyball for 9 years including spending 3 years on the senior team at Holy Trinity. Marc grew up playing for NAVC spending his U14 through U18 seasons with the club. Currently, Marc is a setter for the Concordia University of Edmonton Thunder where he is about to begin his 4th year. Marc is eager to help further grow the game of volleyball and begin working with the athletes.
Tianna has been involved with volleyball for 11 years. She has 5 years of club experience playing for NAVC during her U18 year. Tianna currently plays for Concordia University of Edmonton Thunder headed into her 4th year and was recognized as CCAA athlete of the week at one point during her 3rd year. She has 2 previous years of coaching experience coaching both 14U girls and 14U boys. Tianna looks forward to coaching these young athletes to help them improve their skills as well as to continue and craft her coaching skills!
NAVC Griffins 14M Coaching Staff
This will be Nakul’s second season coaching with NAVC. Growing up he played volleyball at a high level. He played 3 years at Harry Ainlay High School as an outside hitter and captain where he won numerous individual, city, and provincial medals. Nakul also played 5 years with NAVC, winning 4 provincial gold medals, a Canada West National bronze medal and many other premier medals.
As a coach, Nakul coached the D.S. Mackenzie Trojans volleyball team for 2 years leading them to a city championship. Nakul also coached the Harry Ainlay Titans soccer team for 3 years leading them to 3 medals. He recently graduated from the University of Alberta with a degree in accounting and also took a few volleyball specific coaching courses. As of this year, Nakul is working towards completing his NCCP level 1 coaching certification. Nakul is very excited to begin another season with NAVC and pass on his knowledge and love for the sport!
This will be Brendan’s second year coaching the Men’s U13 team with NAVC. Brendan played competitive volleyball both in school and with NAVC as a setter where his team won gold at numerous premier and provincial championships and silver at the Canada West National Championship.
He is very excited to be returning to NAVC to help create the same positive experience that he had with the NAVC program as a player. For many of the players, this will be their first year playing competitive club volleyball and Brendan is excited to have the opportunity to introduce this level of volleyball to the next generation of athletes where he focuses on creating an atmosphere that is fun yet constructive and competitive. He is also working towards completing his NCCP Level 1 Coaching Certification.
Off the court, Brendan graduated from the University of Alberta with a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering and is currently pursuing a career in building design engineering. Brendan is eager to start the season and to begin sharing his love of volleyball with the next group of up and coming athletes.
NAVC Griffins 13M Coaching Staff
Geoff is very pleased to be back for his 6th season with NAVC (5th as a head coach). As a player, Geoff consistently played with and against some of the best in the province, serving as team captain for 2 city championship teams and winning the ASAA 4A provincial championship in his Grade 12 year. Geoff’s NAVC teams have had success (including a silver medal at the Canadian National Open Championship), and his players have gone on to have successful post-secondary careers with the MacEwan Griffins and University of Alberta Golden Bears. Outside of volleyball, Geoff is currently in the first year of his Masters degree in Medical Genetics at the U of A.
This is Bennett's 6th time returning as a coach for NAVC. Bennett has coached levels u14 to u16 previously. Prior to that, he played for the Harry Ainlay Titans from 2007-2009, and for the MacEwan University Griffins as a setter during the 2012/2013 season.
