NAVC Griffins 13M Coaching Staff

Head Coach - Nakul Shadagopal

This will be Nakul’s second season coaching with NAVC. Growing up he played volleyball at a high level. He played 3 years at Harry Ainlay High School as an outside hitter and captain where he won numerous individual, city, and provincial medals. Nakul also played 5 years with NAVC, winning 4 provincial gold medals, a Canada West National bronze medal and many other premier medals. 

As a coach, Nakul coached the D.S. Mackenzie Trojans volleyball team for 2 years leading them to a city championship. Nakul also coached the Harry Ainlay Titans soccer team for 3 years leading them to 3 medals. He recently graduated from the University of Alberta with a degree in accounting and also took a few volleyball specific coaching courses. As of this year, Nakul is working towards completing his NCCP level 1 coaching certification. Nakul is very excited to begin another season with NAVC and pass on his knowledge and love for the sport!

Assistant Coach - Brendan Poon

This will be Brendan’s second year coaching the Men’s U13 team with NAVC. Brendan played competitive volleyball both in school and with NAVC as a setter where his team won gold at numerous premier and provincial championships and silver at the Canada West National Championship. 

He is very excited to be returning to NAVC to help create the same positive experience that he had with the NAVC program as a player. For many of the players, this will be their first year playing competitive club volleyball and Brendan is excited to have the opportunity to introduce this level of volleyball to the next generation of athletes where he focuses on creating an atmosphere that is fun yet constructive and competitive. He is also working towards completing his NCCP Level 1 Coaching Certification.

Off the court, Brendan graduated from the University of Alberta with a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering and is currently pursuing a career in building design engineering. Brendan is eager to start the season and to begin sharing his love of volleyball with the next group of up and coming athletes.
