NAVC Griffins 14M Coaching Staff

Geoff is very pleased to be back for his 6th season with NAVC (5th as a head coach). As a player, Geoff consistently played with and against some of the best in the province, serving as team captain for 2 city championship teams and winning the ASAA 4A provincial championship in his Grade 12 year. Geoff’s NAVC teams have had success (including a silver medal at the Canadian National Open Championship), and his players have gone on to have successful post-secondary careers with the Grant McEwan Griffins and University of Alberta Golden Bears. Outside of volleyball, Geoff is currently in the first year of his Masters degree in Medical Genetics at the U of A.

Alex Melnyk is returning to NAVC for his fourth season. In his last three seasons with NAVC, he coached the Men’s U14 Gold Bears in 2013, Men’s U15 Gold Bears in 2014, and Men’s U13 Griffins in 2017. He is excited to be back with the club to work with the Men’s U14 Griffins. Alex played volleyball through high school with Harry Ainlay, and in 2009 they won the Provincial Championship. Alex has also been involved coaching the Sr. Boys volleyball team at Vernon Barford over the last three seasons. Outside of volleyball, Alex is in his 4th and final year at the University of Alberta working towards his Bachelor of Education in Secondary Education. Alex looks forward to another year coaching and is working towards his level 1 coaching certification.
