NAVC Griffins 16M Maroon Coaching Staff

Head Coach - Travis Czainski

 Travis graduated from Hunting Hills High school in Red Deer and continued on to play three years as a setter for the Red Deer College Kings. During his first two years as a king, they won two ACAC silver medals in Provincials, but took disappointing losses in  Nationals quarter finals one year and in the semi final the next years. In his third year, they won the ACAC Provincial Gold and went on to achieve a CCAA national silver.  He is now currently playing in the CIS for the MacEwan University Griffins.  While playing in Red Deer, Travis was an assistant coach for Hunting Hills and for the Central Alberta Kings for two years. This will be Travis' third season coaching with NAVC and he is very much looking forward to coaching the U17 Griffins team. 

Assistant Coach - Chris Jones

Chris Jones is a 23 year-old graduate from U of A where he was as an outside hitter for 2 years with the Golden Bears Volleyball Team.. Chris has completed his combined Phys Ed and Secondary Education Degree with a major in Physical Education while at the U of A. He spent his first three years at Red Deer College playing for the RDC Kings and studying Kinesiology. During these years in Red Deer, Chris built his post secondary volleyball IQ while being coached under Aaron Schulha. In his second year, Chris contributed to an ACAC silver (2012), and an ACAC Championship Gold in 2013, followed by a 2nd place finish at the CCAA National Championships. Chris made the decision to return for a third year at RDC where the team won their 2nd ACAC Championship title in a row, and won their CCAA 2014 National Championship Gold. With Edmonton being Chris’s hometown, He grew up playing for the NAVC Club were he won 4 provincial championships and 2 national championships. Chris Attended Strathcona Composite High School where he won back-to-back MVP Awards for the Senior Men’s Volleyball Team in grades 11 and 12. Chris also has experience playing on the beach winning U18 Beach Provincials in 2012. Chris’s passion for education and volleyball has allowed Him to obtain the position of Co-Director at Edmonton Volleyball Camps (EVC). While running these camps along side his older sister Alyssa Jones, Chris has had coaching experience indoors and on the beach. Chris has coached a range of levels from beginner athletes to those in high school with higher levels of experience through both elite positional camps through EVC, as well as private indoor sessions. Chris hopes to broaden his volleyball knowledge and coaching strategies with every opportunity, and he aims to build an even stronger Coaching and Teaching philosophy. Chris looks forward to working with and building the ‘complete student athlete’ and giving back to the Volleyball Club that has guided his Volleyball and Career choices since a young age.

Assistant Coach - Matt Mohler

Matt Mohler is a former MacEwan Griffin that is joining the NAVC coaching staff for his 1st year. Matt graduated from Strathcona High School in 2012 while also playing on the Senior Men’s Volleyball Team for 3 years. During his time with the team, he helped lead the team to a top 4 finish in provincials while also winning an MVP award with the team. Matt proceeded to join the MacEwan Griffins volleyball team the following year and played for 5 years with the program as a setter. Matt was a part of the team that obtained a #2 CCAA ranking countrywide, and helped the team achieve a silver medal at ACAC Provincials. Matt was awarded a Most Outstanding Contribution with the MacEwan Griffins in 2015 and became captain of the team during his last 2 years. Matt is also a former NAVC player and played 6 years with club. Over his NAVC club career, Matt has won 3 provincials championships and achieved a top 3 finish at nationals. Matt is currently working towards his Masters in Physical Therapy at the University of Alberta. He has high level volleyball experience and knowledge at both the ACAC and CIS level, has helped coach various volleyball camps, and is eager to join the NAVC coaching staff.
